Silk was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Ilkay is the mother of Peter, an educator and a leading actress and playwright. Peter was educated at St. Thomas University. Some of Anna's earliest memories were playing rehearsals, and then watching her mother perform. Silk had a number of commercials that she was in when she was young. She graduated with a Bachelor's in Arts from St. Thomas University in 1997. Theatre St. Thomas has produced two productions in the early years: Seven Menusand The Kitchen. Silk moved to Toronto in 1999 to Los Angeles in the decade immediately following 1999. Seth Cooperman met Silk at an acting workshop in Los Angeles in 2007. They were married civilly in December 2009. When she converted to Judaism and they renewed their wedding vows during the Jewish ceremony on April 10th 2011.
